Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are dental X-rays safe? If so, how safe are they?

A.  Any form of exposure to radiation sources can affect and damage one’s tissues and cells. In some cases, this could also lead to the development of cancer.  But the amount of radiation that one is exposed to during an X-ray procedure is extremely minute, to the point that some consider it as negligible. Thanks to advances in dentistry technology, today’s X-rays emit low radiation levels, according to our Lancaster dentist. Some of these improvements include new X-ray machines that use high speed X-ray films, the use of film holders to keep the film in place, and new X-ray related clothing equipment that protects any form of stray radiation.
